About me

As far as I can remember, I have always been athletic. To find out that I had Parkinson's Disease in 2004, was a total surprise! I had to learn everything that I could about this disease. I read everything and went to many seminars and have and still do participate in Clinical Trials. After reviewing my medical records it was determined that I had tremors in 1987, at age 38 years old. I can no longer smell, I drag my left legs often. I loose my balance but I do enjoy dancing. If I fall, I get right back up.

Many things happen to a person with Parkinson's dsease. As of this date, there is no cure, just medicine and/or DBS to help. I can not have DBS because of the damage done from my previous stroke in the area where the surgery would take place. I am getting ahead of myself.

Then came the major stroke in 2004, after my Parkinson's disease diagnosis. How could this happen? Paralyzed on my left side. I had to learn how to speak, chew and swallow foods, regain all movements on my left side including using my hand and fingers to pick up things, legs and feet to move, stand, learn balance and walking., rebuild the muscles. I won't get into that. It took a year of 3 to 4 hours each day of all kinds of therapies. I had a blood clot in a vein burst in my brain. I thank God that I was able to get back to 99% of me.

I have had 4 major surgeries for female problems, beginning in 1981 and so far no more since 2009. In 2010, we ( My husband and I) purchased a motor coach and traveled over the US spreading the word about Parkinson's disease and passing out brochures We no longer have the motor coach.

When I was diagnosed with Dystonia of the feet and calves, I thought ok, I have had enough. Surely, nothing else will happen.

But I was wrong, more would come. I lost the bone in my lower jaw and ended up with cadaver bone, implants, and gums, and snap in lower dentures. I have had 6 other surgeries adding more bone and gum. I also have been dignosed with temors of my voice box, .

Through all of this, I continue to feel totally BLESSED! I Thank God for helping me. Of course I have pity me times, and say, Why Me, Lord? I am human, but most of the time when this happens, I look in the mirror and say, Why Not Me? I am a fighter and I will continue to fight this disease called Parkinson's Disease. I continue to exercise and meditate.

I use to be so shy. Now I give Seminars on Parkinson's Disease Awareness. I also began writing poetry, I hope you enjoy it.

God Bless,

Margie

Do You Know Your Neighbor?

This is my wish for you:
Comfort on difficult days,
Smiles when sadness intrudes,
Rainbows to follow the clouds,
Laughter to kiss your lips,
Sunsets to warm your heart,
Hugs when spirits sag,
Beauty for your eyes to see,
Friendships to brighten your being,
Faith so that you can believe,
Confidence for when you doubt,
Courage to know yourself,
Patience to accept the truth,
Love to complete your life.

Such a wonderful weekend  I shared.
Spending time with friends,
Singing Happy Birthday to Clara,
who turned 101 yesterday.

Her daughter and son-in-law
are very generous and loving people.

If only the world was so kind and caring.
We would live so much better.
Do you stop and talk to your neighbors?

So many people are too busy and have lived for years ,
in the same home and have no idea who their neighbors are.
If you would take some time and get to know your neighbor.
It would be a wonderful thing for the both of you.

Let me tell you a story that occurred several years ago. We lived in this very
nice neighbor hood. We welcome new neighbors and would say hi when we saw them but that was about it. Everyone including my husband and myself were always busy.
One day we were working in our yard and our neighbor was working in his yard with his wife as well. We had some small talk with the neighbor and when we finished I went in to get a shower.
When I was finished showering, I saw my husband running over to the neighbors home, as the wife was screaming. The other neighbors ran over as well. Her husband had gone into the bathroom to get his shower and dropped over dead. He was 50 years old.
My husband and neighbor did CPR, but it did not help. By the way the neighbor that did the CPR was a physician.
From that very day, I went out into our neighborhood and asked if the neighbors would like to sign up for emergency purposes and give their name & phone number and if they worked in the medical field, I wrote that down. Everyone was given a copy.
We also began having cookouts and neighborhood get-togethers.  Life really was very enjoyable and we all helped one another. Isn't that the way it should be. Do you know your neighbor? If not, maybe you should.

An Artist In Me

If I could paint a picture, what would it be.
I would start by painting the large tree by the pond
It is a large live oak tree, where the birds nest,
and the ducks rest because of the shade it provides.

I would paint the pond with the ducks floating by
and the turtles, bobbing there heads as they swim.

I would also have to paint the sunny sky above,
and the green grass below, surrounding the pond.
I would have to paint the butterflies and
the humming bird, that flies by.

Oh what a pretty picture that would be.
the problem is, I have no artist skills in me.

The Light of the Morning Rays

The light of the morning rays,
shine bright from above.
Watching the building of a nest by two doves.
Seeing the squirels chasing
one another up the tree.
Looking at the turtles all huddled together,
as if they are having a a family reunion .
I feel a gentle breeze flow in the morning air.
Wow, such wonders I see, is worthwhile for me.

I woke up this morning to such loud noises,
still half asleep I kept thinking it must be a storm.
As I was making the bed, I realized, silly me,
it's the noise from the sound maker by the bed.
Gadgets like these,
help some of us relax and go to sleep,
instead of tossing, turning and counting sheep.

This afternoon is a special birthday for a friend.
She turns one hundred and one years old
Her family is having a party and we will attend.
Clara is a beautiful lady, with style and grace.

Looking back over a century,
 how far we have come.
Medicine and research is what we continue to need
to fight this thing called Parkinson's disease.

So if you are willing to participate in finding a cure,
what better way to start your day.
Let's begin by getting involved in a clinical trial,
This would be helpful, that's for sure.

Think positive each day and be thankful,
we, you and I
have made it another day!

Hope Whispers...

There are times with Parkinson's disease we feel like giving up,
This is only natural to have these feeling occasionally
I know that if do my exercises, I will feel better.

With my exercises, I try to do a routine each morning.
By doing so, I feel like I am battling and winning
 the fight against Parkinson's.

I go outside to feel good about life
To be able to combat depression.

I also meditate and pray,
Thanking God for giving me this day.

This afternoon, I golfed with my husband.
By the fourth hole I was ready to quit.
 But hope whispered,
let's try it one more time,

I continued playing after the fourth
and succeeded to finish the sixth.

I try to do all that I can.
Please don't look at what you can't do.
Always look at what you accomplished.

Looking at the positive side
 and not the negative.
Helps many to feel happiness within.

So put a smile on your face

Hear Ye, Hear Ye,

Hear Ye, Hear Ye,

To All Of You with Parkinson's and Family Members.

People ask, when are they ever going to find a cure?

I say when enough money is raised and enough people volunteer for clinical

trials.

I have been in several over the years, and I am involved in another one with

Michael J. Fox's team.

You don't have to have Parkinson's disease to participate
and you can do some on-line.

If you are interested in getting match up with a clinical trial:

https://foxtrialfinder.michaeljfox.org

Check it out, you will also feel like your are involved in helping to find a better

treatment or cure.

Sending you a hug

I  want to send you a hug today.
I hope it makes you feel good.
There is so much I want say to you.

Please work hard at fighting PD
By exercising your mind and body
Put a smile on your face, please
You can feel a little noddy
By laughing at your own routine.

Walking out onto the lanai,
Watching the sun rise
Is a wonderful to sight to see.

Hearing nature as it awakes
I hear a loud boom
Off in the distance is a large storm
As it gets closer it is time to go in
Making certain we are safe

While watching the storm with such powerful lights,
Hitting the ground with a sound that is frightening.
The storm passes and the sun begins to shine.
 Watching
is quite enlightening.

If you can hear thunder at a distance,
It is time to seek shelter.

Look for Something Positive

Each day is a challenge, to keep my balance.

I exercise and meditate hoping that if I fall,

I won't have to go in an ambulance at all.

At times I freeze as if my feet were glued to the floor

My dog comes running to help me endure.

He gets on my feet and digs them

Suddenly, I am shuffling across the floor.

I don't have a mask like face,

showing no expressions at all.

I had it once before, and thank God,

 I don't have it anymore.

This is a progressive disease,

I don't worry about what tomorrow will bring.

I am just thankful when I wake up

and my feet touches the floor.

Time has been given to me, once more.
